Natural Stone online resource launched for Consarc Design Group
Origin Partners have recently designed and developed an online Stone Database for the Consarc Design Group. The system provides information on Stone Types, Quarries and over 1500 Natural Stone buildings in Northern Ireland and provides an excellent resource for architects, students, researchers and conservationists across the world.
The Natural Stone Database Project is a first step in addressing some of the lack of information for stone conservation in Northern Ireland. The project is a unique partnership between industry and research in Northern Ireland that combines the research knowledge of the Stone Weathering Research Group at Queen's
with the extensive practical experience of Consarc Design Group.
The project comprised an extensive two and a half year programme of surveying, stone sampling and analysis which was used to produce an interactive, database of listed buildings, monuments and stone quarries 'The Natural Stone Database' and 'Guidance Notes' for the Environment and Heritage Service of Northern Ireland.
"The online Stone Database provides excellent search functionality, image galleries, integration with google maps and clever content mgt. It was an extremely interesting and rewarding project to work on." (Jerry Staple, Origin Partners)
